Santa Monica Pier was one of the first places we visited on our trip to Los Angeles (after the Hollywood walk of fame!). This iconic spot is right on the beach and has its own fairground filled with all kinds of classic sideshow amusements. As we rode the ferris wheel we all looked out over the Pacific Ocean and imagined what everyone was doing back home. Then, moments later, a gust of wind blew the hats right off Kirsty and Delilah’s heads! There were a few moments of tears (no, not mine), but by some miracle someone had found Delilah’s precious...Read More
Two years ago this week I began Smarter Happier. Two years ago this week I wrote about how Kirsty had suffered a “mini stroke” and our whole world had turned upside down. Two years since we decided that something needed to change in order for us to live happier lives in which we feel more fulfilled. We have learned a lot over the last two years; Kirsty and I have both taken courses, attended Problogger, delved deep into the world of internet marketing, and generally got ourselves more organised. I wrote last year about my students graduating high school and heading off into the big, wide...Read More

Where things go horribly out of control and you suddenly look up and find yourself in the middle of a train wreck of your own creation? I had one of those today. One of those days where one thing didn’t go particularly well and I was soon doubting everything I was doing. Doubting not just the stuff I was doing today, but all over. The big...Read More
Gyms – they’re not just a place for buff guys with arms like logs and gals with a penchant for lycra to hang out. Normal people go there and its kinda normal. This may not be news to you, but it sure was to me. Three moths ago I stepped into a gym for the first time. I kid you not. In my short 37 years of existence I had never been closer to a gym than to wander past the front door and grimace at the thumping music coming from within. I could provide a whole bunch of...Read More
